LHBw surpassed itself in the latest clothing issue

At the quarterly clothing issue for recruits in July, the LHBw was once again able to increase its own performance and even improve on the excellent results achieved in the April clothing issue: not one single missing article was recorded in the issue involving a total of some 1.8 million articles issued to 17,000 recruits! The quota of missing articles of exactly 0 % again documents the logistic competence and the performance capability of the LHBw.

LHBw � Second report of results by the Federal Ministry of Defense on the cooperation project for New Clothing Management

In July 2010, the second report by the Federal Ministry of Defense was prepared on the control of results for the New Clothing Management (NBM). The report covered the profitability and the degree of achievement reached in the contractually agreed targets. The report covered the period of the first six fiscal years from 2002 to 2008 and concluded with a positive evaluation of the performance provided by the LHBw.

LHD Group at the Interschutz 2010 in Leipzig

The LHD Group with its subsidiary, Lion Apparel Deutschland GmbH (LAD) participated at the Interschutz in Leipzig from 7^th to 12^th June 2010. More than 1,350 exhibitors from 46 nations presented their products and services at the trade fair which is held once every five years. As leading experts for apparel and equipment in the field of fire protection and disaster control, the LAD presented, among other things, its V Force product innovation. The fair was a complete success, many new contacts were established and existing ones refreshed. The next Interschutz will be held in Hanover in 2015.

LHD � Extension of the Contract with the US Army

The contract with the US Army for laundry and cleaning services was extended for a further year with effect from 1^st June. The US Army thus underlines the trust it places in the good service provided by and in the cooperation with the LAD. In addition to processing 64,000 units of ballistic protection vests without any complaint whatsoever, the permanent involvement of the LHD was of major importance in the decision to extend the term of the contract.

LHD Group � Visit by the Secretary of State, Dr. Walther Otremba

On 7^th May, Secretary of State , Dr. Walther Otremba, who has been Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defense since February 2010, visited the company�s headquarters for the first time, with the objective of getting to know the activities of the of the LHD Group in detail. Secretary of State, Dr. Otremba, was impressed by the activities and developments undertaken by the group of companies.

LHD Group � Work begins on new company headquarters

The new construction of the headquarters of the LHD Group started with an official ground breaking ceremony on 6^th May. The future headquarters of the company is situated in Frankfurter Strasse at the Airport Business Park in Cologne. The building is planned to be completed by 2011.

LHBw achieves a sensational result in the April clothing issue

In the issue involving some 2 million articles issued to 18,000 recruits, one single article was missing. The error quota of 0.00005% is unparalleled and documents the logistic competence and the outstanding performance capacity of the LHBw.

Lion Apparel Deutschland GmbH wins �PP Innovation Prize

The �PP Project (Public Private Partnership) �Central procurement and logistics management for the volunteer fire departments in the Offenbach district� was awarded the prize �Innovation creates a lead 2009�. The prize is awarded annually by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology BMWI) together with the Federal Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BME) for exceptional, exemplary performance in the field of public private cooperation.
The award-winning model, is a central clothing store operated by Lion Apparel Deutschland GmbH (Lion). This encompasses, among other aspects, an emergency contingent which is available at all times. In addition, clothing fitting sessions for trying on the clothing including an alteration service are provided on a local basis. The model also includes an ozone laundry service for protective clothing which is unique in Germany and in which an inspection service is also carried out. In this way, Lion supports the local authorities in the district of Offenbach by helping to save costs and reduce the time and effort involved in administration. Recently, the clothing store for the regular police was integrated into the system as well. This successful concept has earned a positive resonance in areas beyond the borders of the district.

LHD and LHBw at the Parliamentary Evening of the Reservist Association

LHD and LHBw presented themselves once again with an information stand at the Parliamentary Evening of the Reservist Association of the German Armed Forces in Berlin on 16^th March 2010. On the occasion of the 50-year jubilee of the reservist association, in addition to high-ranking military staff and secretaries of state, visitors also included the former Minister of Defense, Dr. Jung. The current Minister of Defense, Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg, held the commemorative speech which was awaited with great suspense.

The LHD and LHBw were the subject of great interest, underlined, for example, by Reinhold Robbe, the outgoing ombudsman of the armed forces who expressed his satisfaction with the previous cooperation.

LHBw fits out its own employees with new work clothes

Since the end of February 2010, the LHBw has been providing its own employees with innovative work clothes. The collection, especially designed for the LHBw, consists of high quality workwear such as, for example, trousers, shirts and jackets in the company�s corporate design. The resonance is very positive and, in the coming weeks, over 6,500 articles will be issued to the employees.

LHBW AND LHD AT THE OPEN HOUSE DAY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN BERLIN

In the course of the Open House Day of the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Defence opened the doors of its Berlin offices and facilities for the 11th time from 22nd to 23rd August 2009. Some 8,400 visitors took the opportunity of looking behind the scenes of the German Armed Forces and the Federal Ministry of Defence.

The LHBw and the LHD were present with an information and sales stand and presented a selected range of services and products to the public.

Mr. Latz (Retail Trade Sales Manager) handed over a check for an amount of more than � 13,000 to Ms. Jung, wife of the Minister of Defence in aid of the Bundeswehr Sozialwerk e.V., the social welfare institution of the German armed forces. This amount was achieved from the sales of teddy bears in the first half of 2009.

We are looking forward to the event next year.

LHBW � SUCCESSFUL FIRST EMPLOYMENT OF THE MOBILE SERVICE FOR NBC-EQUIPMENT

From 06th � 10th July 2009, for the first time ever, the newly recruited soldiers were equipped with NBC personal protective articles of equipment by the LHBw. A total of 18,000 soldiers from 130 units were supplied with their personal protective equipment at 98 different locations. This involved, among other things, the protective mask, the bag for the mask, a filter, and a bag for self-help equipment.

LHBW � MOBILE SERVICE FOR NBC-PROTECTION

From June 2009, LHBw will equip the Armed Forces' soldiers not only with clothing and personal equipment, but also with personal NBC equipment for the first time. The handing over will not take place in the service centers but on site in the barracks by means of special vehicles (Mobile Service Points NBC) of LHBw. The LHBw staff will individually adapt the NBC masks M2000 and hand over the personal NBC articles to the soldiers.

The target dates will be agreed upon individually during the usual preliminary clothing meetings.

In the course of process optimization, the NBC mask M2000 will have a barcode in the future in order to track their lifecycle and be available in this form from July 2009.

Soldiers who received these new masks beforehand will, therefore, be newly changed over to a serialized mask. The priority of the equipment will be fixed by the Armed Forces Support Commando.

As a centralized control center for ordering and return of ABC articles, LHBw will establish a Service Center at the Kappel site, which will be available by phone and email. Exchange and returns will be handled by a parcel service, in case of need for adaptation LHBw will be on site with the NBC Service Vehicle.

ADVANCED DEFENCE & SECURITY TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT IN DUBAI

The Advanced Defence & Security Technology Summit (ADST) was held in Dubai for the first time under the patronage of the Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates. The LHD was represented both as participant as well as Silver Sponsor. The target of the conference is to create an international forum for exchange between political decision makers and industry in front of a background of global political questions involving security.

LHBW EXPANDS ITS RANGE OF TASKS FOR THE ARMED FORCES

The LHBw has yet again been successful in an Armed Forces� call for tenders. As a consequence, it will also be managing the personal NBC protective equipment and NBC clothing from 1 January 2009.

It will take over the central warehouse management in the Kappel depot and retain the staff employed there (slightly fewer than 40) as supply-staff, as it is already the case with the clothing and personal equipment management. However, article acquisition will still be in the remit of the BWB (Federal Office for Defence Technology and Procurement).

Some matters still have to be dealt with before the actual supply procedure can be set in motion. First of all, an inventory will be taken of the substantial stock and it will be one of the tasks to reduce this to the required size. Next, and most importantly, the new NBC mask M2000 will be furnished with a barcode to track its life cycle.

The first kitting-out with personal NBC articles is expected to be conducted from mid-2009 onwards. This will, however, not take place in the standard service stations for clothing, as contractual conditions do not permit their use for the supply of NBC articles. Kitting out and exchange will be conducted in vehicles employed by the LHBw specifically for this task and comparable to Mobile Service Points (MSP), which have already been running for some time.
The central control station will be Kappel, which will be upgraded accordingly.The soldiers� equipment will be registered in their personal clothing account.

Considering recent experience with the LHBw clothing management, it can be assumed that, once started, the supply channel will work smoothly and well.

LHD Group AT INTERSEC 2009

At the largest trade exhibition in the Middle East in the field of safety, civil defence, police, fire and rescue services, the Intersec 2009, the LHD Group was present as exhibitor. From 18th to 20th January 2009, a specialized public was presented with a comprehensive range of clothing and equipment for security forces at the LHD exhibition stand. Innovations such as clothing with an integrated vector protection or silver ion material were as much the focus of attention as were the many individual solutions provided by the LHD for its customers.
