VECTORS – an Underestimated threat
In the fields of biology and medicine, the term "vectors" describes those carriers of viruses and micro-organisms which transmit disease, without becoming ill themselves. Amongst insects, typical vectors include mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas, whose bite can spread illnesses such as malaria and dengue fever. In the military arena, around 75-80% of all hospital treatments are for infectious illnesses, many of which can be transmitted by vectors. This demonstrates the true danger of these insects. Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis show that, even in our latitudes, protection must be taken very seriously. If complications set in, there is the threat of occupational disability or even death.
